Our Year in Review: 2022

Community, Collaboration, Commitment, Compassion, and Integrity. Year after year, we strive to bring our core values to life and go above and beyond. We are so proud of all we accomplished in 2022.

We celebrated our 10th anniversary in May; a decade of providing advanced specialty care and 24/7 emergency medicine to the Suffolk community and surrounding areas.

Across our emergency and specialty departments, we treated more than 22,400 pets. Of those 22,400+ cases, 13,985 of them were emergency patients. An increase of 7,502 and 4,885 cases, respectively.

Caring for all those pets in need wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible veterinary technicians, specialists, managers, and support staff. We were lucky enough to add 29 new team members this year, who helped field over 221,439 incoming phone calls–an uptick from last year of 107%.

We’d like to send heartfelt thanks to all of our clients who showed patience, kindness, and grace to our team as they worked diligently to provide the highest quality of care to many pets in need.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our Emergency department associates Dr. Christian Lapp, Dr. Nicolette Pendry, Dr. Christine Reid, Dr. Alicia Thomas, Dr. Lucia Tonin (intern), and Dr. Arrianna Williams for their hard work and dedication. In addition, we send our sincere gratitude to our relief veterinarians Dr. Beard, Dr. Comer, Dr. Crist, Dr. Granata, Dr. Gravelle, Dr. Hemsley, Dr. Jones, Dr. Mueller, and Dr. Segler for providing excellent care and expertise.

Thanks to our Cardiology department, led by The COVE’s co-owner Merrilee T. Small, DVM, DACVIM, we conducted 357 cardiology consults, helping families learn the importance of heart health and addressing any concerns from worried pet parents.

Under the leadership of our dedicated veterinary surgical specialist and co-owner of The COVE, Jeff T. Stallings, DVM, DACVS, we conducted 336 surgical consults and performed over 517 surgical procedures. Remember Rocky? Our team was able to get him back on his feet after he was hit by a car.

Our dentistry team, led by Colleen Fox, DVM CSAVP (Dentistry), conducted 319 dentistry conducted and handled over 376 dental procedures, keeping your pet’s oral health in tip-top shape. A 3-year-old Shetland Sheepdog named Freya was one of those procedures. She came to us with an infected fractured tooth and left with a clean bill of health.

Happy New Year from The COVE

What a year it was!  As we start a new year, we’d like to thank our staff for all their dedication and hard work throughout 2022. They truly pour their hearts into our patients every day, living up to our mission and bringing our core values to life. Looking ahead into 2023, we can’t wait to celebrate our 11th year in the spring and help even more pets who find their way to the loving hands of our team.

We wish you and all your furry loved ones a safe, healthy, and happy New Year.
