See some of the Pet Tales we’ve received from our wonderful clients to understand the depth of our compassion for pets, and the human-animal bond. Nothing makes us happier than making you happy.

We also encourage you to leave a testimonial of your own and tell us about your experience with The COVE. Your feedback is so important to us!

Compassionate Care

My 7 month old Pomeranian suffered from an ulna fracture. We were recommended to the Cove from another vet’s office after his injury. I was a complete mess when I got the news my boy would have to have surgery to repair his injury. The staff here did an amazing job with answering all my questions and reassured me he was in good hands. Dr Stallings was kind, patient, and knowledgeable. My dog is my best friend and I was so pleased with how the staff understood my feelings throughout the process. We were allowed to visit him post op and given lots of information on how to properly care for him for the weeks to come. I am very thankful for all staff members who cared for my “son.” I will forever be grateful for the work they do to provide for our family members. I am glad Scar had a team who takes pride in caring for our pets just like we would at home. THANK YOU COVE!

We took our Princess here

We took our Princess here on 10/17/2022. Baby girl was 17 years old and so sick. While we saw the decline, the final stage happened over a matter of days. I was informed additional tests would be another $800 or 850. We decided to bring our baby girl home to die. But in that time (3 to 4 hours) she had deteriorated more. My decision to bring her back home to die was selfish. We returned to the Cove a few hours later to have her put to sleep. It was heartbreaking for us but the doctors and technicians were so kind to our sweet Princess. We held Princess through the process. One medication to put her to sleep one to stop her heart. It was so peaceful. I am so happy we made a decision to bring her to the Cove. Miss our sweet girl everyday but so thankful for their kindness and sincere care of our girl and of us! The photo is from probably 18 months ago. My beautiful girl.

Pretty Boy

We had to bring out pretty boy in one a Sunday evening unfortunately to have him out down to a spinal injury that was beyond anything that could be done for him. The office staff, techs and doctor gave us a great and speedy response, especially for being a new client. They shown us great compassion and with a follow up condolence letter signed by the staff made the situation a little easier. My family is very thankful for the service they provided, but wish we never needed it.

Stressful Night

Due to a very stressful night of the house fire alarms sounding (wiring glitch), my little Rex, became very stressed and I noticed his breathing was a bit labored. We decided to bring him to The Cove. After an evaluation, Rex was fine and the breathing issue was probably related to heightened levels of anxiousness. When we brought him home, he took a much needed nap, and continued with his happy-go-lucky demeanor. The technician that came to the car was very gracious and kept us updated on his status. Being a first-timer to this practice, I will definitely recommend to others and be a return customer, if ever needed. Thank you to the staff for taking care of my little guy!

Fantastic Service

The Cove is expensive, but there is no better care. You actually get to talk with the doctor, who is not rushed to get to the next patient. The Cove called twice a day with updates. Dr. Lapp is amazing. 5 stars!! Tip: How to get a dog to take their pills; wrap it in cream cheese. It too is amazing 🙂

Thank you to the Doctors and Staff of The Cove.

I would like to take a moment to thank all the Staff and Doctors that helped us with Smokey last week.   There are two in particular who were absolutely amazing.

First, Sydney helped us with our paperwork and to understand the costs of what was happening.  She was so gentle and kind.  She really made us feel like she understood the position we were in and the decisions we would be faced with.  Her understanding nature really helped us through the sadness.

Secondly, Courtney B., LVT  worked closely with Dr. Thomas.  She made the decisions to get as much information as possible that night so we could have all the facts to determine the best possible outcome for our Smokey before leaving the hospital.   She knew how hard it would be for us to leave him not knowing if he would even make it through the night.

To have made the final decision to let him go that night was the most difficult decision my husband and I could make, but having the support of the staff, we know we made the right choice.  This was the first lost for our kids, and they took it very hard.  They know he is in a better place and is with his first brother Baily dog.

The COVE has a great, communicative staff. Knowledgeable over the phone with questions you may have about potential medical issues. They are straightforward, honest, present multiple options, and never made me feel pressured to make an immediate decision or agree to a procedure. My fur baby had to have surgery at COVE. The frequent updates eased my mind and helped me feel included in the process. Very engaging with my baby and kind to me as well. 5/5 recommended!

Buddy

Buddy is a Kitty. When he was young and a very responsible kitty he made an appointment with the Snip Van to have himself neutered. When he returned home and was in the healing process, he found that one of his incisions was itching. He neglected to tell me, his mommy and proceeded to secretly lick and bite at the stitches until the were removed and then tear off the skin. This resulted in swelling and infection which Mommy did notice . . . . on a holiday weekend. So off to The Cove Mommy, Daddy and Buddy went. Lots and lots of wayward and sick pets went also. Buddy was taken to the dark recesses of the secret rooms in the back while we waited out in the front with the other parents. A few big dogs came in with Copper Head snake bites so they had to go ahead of naughty little Buddy. Several more serious cases had to be taken before errant Little Buddy. After all, it was a holiday weekend and no other vets were open in what seemed like a 50-mile radius. (I probably exaggerate on this). We made several new friends, ate our dinner and after seven hours our Buddy was released into our care once again. He was well taken care of, loved and spoiled rotten by those dear angels at the Cove. And much to our surprise, the bill was much less than we had anticipated. We LOVE The Cove! And our time in the waiting room was entertaining.

The staff at the cove was amazing as they took care of Brody during his last few hours on this earth. He had been battling seizures for about a year and the last group of break through seizures were the worst yet. I know they did what they could and we appreciate everything they did for us and our Brody. The kindness they showed with the sympathy letter they sent us this week really shows how much they care about every animal that comes through the door. Thank you for helping us through this difficult time!

We want to thank the doctor and staff that treated our Marley who ingested a mothball from somewhere??? We were offered two plans of treatment for him which gave us a choice. They are so compassionate and friendly. I love the fact that we have a choice when we are in need of ER services. Most of all I love the fact that they are so close to our house. My cat Blu had a urinary tract blockage and the cost was a lot higher than my husband and I were prepared for. We had decided to put him down but the staff worked with us on an option closer to what we could afford and Blu is back to his normal self. The staff were sensitive to what we were feeling when we thought that we had to put him down and throughout our entire visit they were very helpful. They even called to check up on him and make sure he’s still doing ok. I will forever be grateful.

When things for you and your pet are at the worst, the Cove is at their best. This past May we had a major medical emergency with our tiny little Chihuahua Persia and our vet referred us to the Cove. We sped over there and they were waiting for us at the door. They had most of the paperwork ready and the vet techs and staff were hustling to get Persia processed in. The good news is that through their hard work, our dog is much better.

The doctors, the techs and the staff were quick and concise, but always remaining sensitive and understanding. They even call every once in a while just to make sure everything is going well. I would refer the Cove to friends and family.

Thanks to Dr. Fox and all of the amazing professional, kind and loving staff at the Cove. Dr. Fox operated on our dog, Gidget, yesterday after we found a mass covering her upper front teeth last Thursday. Gidget also had 3 teeth removed after finding issues with them. We were notified every step of the way with Gidget’s treatment, including several phone calls before and after surgery. Gidget is now home resting comfortably. Thanks again for your compassion and professionalism.

It’s been a year since Shrimpy burst her CCL. Against the horrible odds, she hasn’t burst the other knee (yet…hopefully never, but I don’t want to jinx it). A little grayer around her muzzle is the only outward sign she shows from the ordeal. I might yell across the house (often), “knees are expensive!” when I think rough housing is getting a bit too rough, but there’s no way possible we could be where we are today with her recovery without the help of Dr. Stallings and the amazing staff at the COVE. She’s back to her normal self. She hasn’t lost her love to swim, play and run in the yard. But, most importantly to her, she can follow me wherever I go.

Mike and Shirley Jakway

Shirley and I just what to thank-you, on behalf of Zach, for the excellent care he received at The Cove while he was a patient. Even though the outcome wasn’t what we prayed for or expected we rest the knowledge that Zach was in good hands and it makes his passing a little easier for us to cope with. We love and miss him and wish with our hearts to have him back home with us, but we know that isn’t possible. However, we do believe that God took Zach home and placed him a field with the rest of our babies so he can have fun “chasing” butterflies and falling leaves.

Again even in our grief we just what to say thank-you for looking after our Zach for the last week of his little life. It’s a comfort to know that your facility is there when we need it and that you have doctors and staff who are trained and compassionate professionals.

Dear Dr. Stallings, you performed an emergency spinal surgery on our Boston Terrier Dickens in February. It was a tough one, because once you opened him up you found that material from a disc had leaked and calcified on the spinal cord. You cautioned us not to expect to much in terms of his ability to walk. You did a better job than you knew, because today he’s getting around reasonably well. We appreciate your hard work in surgery.

Our sweet old schnauzer went into renal failure over the long weekend. Although we knew she was near the end, we didn’t expect everything to crash so suddenly. We were finally at wit’s end and Pepper was in complete misery, so it was time for us to make that hard decision we all dread. From the first phone contact on a Sunday at 4 until completion of her euthanasia procedure at 5, everyone was compassionate, efficient, and courteous. Given the heartbreaking circumstances, the staff handled everything perfectly. We couldn’t possibly have gotten any better treatment for our family or our dear Pepper. The facilities were clean, quiet and private and our pup who has always been nervous around strangers seemed completely relaxed and comfortable through it all. Many thanks to The Cove for taking such wonderful care of all of us.

We LOVE The Cove! I use them for both cardiology and emergency services. My dog Mariska that sees Dr. Small, our favorite board-certified cardiologist, has a tendency to be aggressive when visiting the vet. Dr. Small and her staff have gone out of their way to make visits less stressful for my boxer. I am very over-protective of my dogs, and I trust Dr. Small with them completely. She has treated 2 of my boxers for different heart conditions and is my go-to doctor for many questions. She always has the best interest of the animal at heart, and trust me when I tell you she will honestly lose sleep over your pet.

I have also used The Cove for emergency services more than once. Dr. Mueller went out of her way to help my anxious, aggressive boxer feel more comfortable.  My chocolate lab was also seen at The Cove towards the end of her life. It was Dr. Mueller that was finally able to provide a diagnosis for my suffering girl.

I highly recommend The Cove if your pet is in need of cardiac or emergency care. We love them!

I cannot begin to express the level of compassion and caring that the staff at The Cove shows to the pets and families that enter the facility. Jenny at the front desk was ready for us when we came in the door. Emily came out immediately and triaged my sweet tabby cat, Cupid. Dr. Fox offered several options and recommendations that were very reasonable. I was fortunate enough to have a pet that needed little in comparison to another family who was there and lost their pet, but I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that the outpouring of true love for each animal is present in each person who works there. This is the place to take your pet 24/7, and know that you will receive competent, quality, and amazing care.

On November 11, 2015 my sweet Marmalade was diagnosed with lymphoma and was given, at most, 2 weeks to live. Today, on March 6, 2016, almost 4 months later, feline lymphoma took my baby from me. He lived a very long and a very good life, and I am so blessed to have been able to have such an amazing, sweet, and loving kitty. He filled my life with love and joy, and will always be remembered. He may be gone for now, but he will NEVER be forgotten, and I know that I will see you again. RIP my boy, I love you!

I would like to thank everyone at The COVE for all that they did for Marmalade. Their kind and loving hearts truly showed through in the care that my boy received. From the first phone call I placed to The COVE regarding my dog, Tulip, right through to her visit today, the care, concern, and attention given to me and my dog’s needs went above and beyond what I could have ever expected. The care given to her today was absolutely amazing. The dedication of each and every staff member we interacted with was beyond exceptional! Dr. Small was so thorough in not only examining Tulip, but also in communicating every detail back to me. Her ‘bedside manor’ was exactly what a client and patient need when in this type of situation. The atmosphere along with the outgoing, personable and friendly staff, helped ease my stress and made me feel very comfortable. I knew my dog was in excellent hands!

I am very glad I went here. Last Sunday my baby ferret was having severe sneezing attacks that would last for minutes. I knew I couldn’t wait for the regular vet to open the next day. I called several emergency vets in the Hampton/Newport News area and none of them would accept ferrets. Thankfully I called this place and they said to bring her in and they would care for her. I didn’t mind driving across the bridge just to make sure my baby was okay. We got there and were seen pretty fast and they took her away to get her vitals. After that the wait was pretty long, but only because they had several emergencies so I was totally fine with waiting. They gave her some liquid antibiotics since she had an upper respiratory infection and they called a few days later to check on her, which was awesome! My baby is doing much better now and will definitely be returning to this place next emergency I have.

Our family had our first, and hopefully last, iggy injury yesterday evening. The pups were playing with both of their human sisters in the room when, in the middle of zoomies, Maka got her leg under the couch and couldn’t get it out before Krona ran into her. It was completely unavoidable.

We scooped her up and got her to The COVE once we saw that she wasn’t weight bearing (Maka screams all the way). The staff was very decisive and gentle with her. The first thing they did was triage, and then gave her pain meds, which made her, and me, much calmer. After the x-rays determined there was no fracture, they snuggled her a bit more and sent her home with antinflammatory meds and a light sedative. We were told many times to call anytime with questions or concerns. We will recommend The COVE to everyone. Thank you for taking such good care of our baby girl!

Today, I am having a hard time convincing her that she is injured.

Friendly, caring staff! Recommended by North Suffolk Animal Clinic because they knew Josie would require 24/7 observation for a number of days due to xylitol ingestion(sugar free gum). Hope we don’t need them anytime soon but was completely impressed! Thank you COVE!!

Absolutely the best local emergency facility for your pets. They provided the most tender loving care to my Zoe. From my initial phone call to visits, I only witnessed true passion for the well-being of my Zoe as well as others with their pets. I had a really positive experience taking my 3 year old puggle, Peppadew, to The COVE after I discovered puncture wounds on his neck from a dog fight that he got into. I thought the fees were reasonable, the staff was extremely pleasant and informative. And I really appreciated that they printed out a set of care instructions for me and went over them with me. If they were a full service vet, I would consider switching.

Never before have I been to such an excellent vet clinic! From the moment we entered to the time we left, we were impressed. Honey was greeted by name and examined by Meg. We were offered candy and water. Rhiannon even joked with my 14-year-old daughter saying Honey is going to be jealous you are petting another dog. Then, Rhiannon came out from behind the counter just to show Honey some love and extra attention so that Honey knew she was awesome. WOW! I took my new rescue Sam in last Sunday. He was very sick with a 106.5 fever. I went in with only $200 to pay for medical expenses. I expressed this to staff and they worked with me on my budget. They did recommend him going into the kitty hospital that night. But I could not afford that. So they gave the best care they could on my budget. They gave him fluids and antibiotics and told me to call with any questions or concerns. Two days later he was back to his normal self. I just want to say thank you to the staff. They were fantastic! Their smiling faces were very comforting at such a scary time for me. I also just a received a check-up call for him, which is why I am writing this review. The staff was wonderful with their treatment of my dog Riley Thursday evening! While outside after dinner, she managed to rip her nail partially off. I knew it needed to come off. Since my vet office was closed, I headed to The COVE. The staff immediately assessed the injury. Since Riley’s injury was not life threatening, we waited our turn. The COVE was very busy with serious illness’ that resulted in difficult decisions for pet owners. This takes a toll on the staff. When it was Riley’s turn, they were all smiles and positive. I admire their courage and strength. I appreciate the attention and love they gave Riley. Today Riley acts as if nothing has happened. Thank you very much for taking care of her! It means so much to me and my family that you are so close and took care of Riley’s “emergency”.

Amazing staff were so kind and understanding. We brought our dog Diesel in Monday night and the staff did their best with taking care of him as quickly as possible (spent 4 hours there, but was understandable as there were other pets there needing treatment, and one extreme emergency that had come in while we were there). They took their time trying to find the best treatment with our budget and gave Diesel the best care possible. Luckily Diesel is doing so much better thanks to the medication and care he received. They even called us 2 days later to check up on how he was doing! Great staff and will definitely recommend to anyone with a pet emergency!

On Saturday afternoon (9/10), I had discovered that my argentine tegu (large lizard), Jabba the Hutt had a rectal prolapse. It was not improved by at home treatments that I am well-versed in and my regular reptile vet had closed and was not open again until Monday.

In my experience with reptiles, I knew this was something that needed surgery ASAP. After calling around to various ER vets to see if they would work with Jabba – who is a docile, sweet boy that is extremely used to being handled and seeing the vet – no one within an hour of me felt comfortable with treating Jabba. I gave The COVE a call and they had a vet on staff who was more than willing to work with Jabba the Hutt. I immediately rushed an hour and a half away through a toll to see them. After waiting for a few hours while the doctor completed her rounds (which we did not mind, knowing how busy they were), we were seen and Jabba was prepped for surgery late Saturday night and ready to go home early the next morning. I picked him up around 2am and saw that he recovered well. A little sleepy but I knew he was going to pull through!

Jabba saw his reptile vet on Monday afternoon, where she removed the sutures that Dr. DeFalco had sewn in to keep his prolapsed rectum inside his body and he needed no further treatment. Thank you SO much to The COVE’s amazing staff and Dr. DeFalco for her prompt and hard work on my boy. She saved his life and I am forever grateful as Jabba The Hutt is just as much my baby as I would consider my dogs or cat. I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!

I love the staff and vets at The COVE. They have cared for my 17-year-old cat for many years. The staff treat my cat like family, even calling to check on her from time to time. Over the years, my cat has had surgeries here, been hospitalized here, and regularly visits her heart specialist here. When I was out of the country, my cat became very ill and The COVE hospitalized her and took amazing care of her. I’m typing this from The COVE this morning after my cat needed to be seen for an emergency. I can’t say enough wonderful things about the people here and the care given to my cat.

The COVE staff has been nothing but incredibly sweet and caring for my baby. They make coming in for his visits and prescription refills a comfortable experience. A couple of the ladies are so sweet. They know my cat, Book’s name, and they light up and ask how he’s doing whenever I have to call. I haven’t been able to tell them how much that means to us! I live out in Virginia Beach now and have no problem making the drive because I know that we’re being well taken care of by The COVE. You guys are amazing and make me wish I could become involved in the veterinarian profession. Thank you!! 🙂

Took my dog here to receive emergency care. They were a little busy, but I had called ahead to inform them we were coming. My dog was seen immediately once arriving. The care was affordable, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, especially Michelle at the front desk. I peeked my head out for a second to speak with Michelle and noticed that the waiting room was empty! I thought to myself “man they move fast around here!” I was impressed. The Dr. and medical staff were quick and efficient, and worked to provide an excellent care package for what I could afford. I highly recommend this place for emergency care of your pets.

Nice nice people – very compassionate. I’m a home health therapist and had to work one weeknd so they kept Louie the Cat. They worked around my schedule to pick him up although they were slammed that day. Really nice staff. Can’t say enough great things about them. I spent the worst day of my life there a couple of years ago because I had to put my 19 yr old cat down. It was hard to go back but knew it was the best place to bring Louie to get the excellent care he required. Thanks

Everyone from the front desk and back was friendly and sympathetic to our concers. Someone came right out for Whirlie and Dr. Small examined him and explained everything to us. I will be returning once he feels better since Dr. Small detected a heart murmur and gallop in hid heart. I’m very grateful she heard it so I can make sure my boy stays as healthy as possible.

First of all I just can’t thank you enough! I know without a doubt in my mind that without The COVE and their staff, Harmony would not be here right now. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. All the nurses put up with me coming to feed her all hours of the night once we finally got her eating food when she was in ICU. No one ever rushed me and always answered any questions. Honestly the whole time she was there was like a blur because it’s so emotional thinking you are about to lose your baby. So the staff being so welcoming and informative really eased my mind. I knew when I couldn’t be there with her that she was recieving the best care possible. Harmony is still improving and almost back to her old self. Thank you so much and everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving!

The COVE was the absolute best vet experience I have ever received. They kept my 10-month-old lab puppy in the hospital for 3 days. During this time, they always kept me informed on her status and let me know results and progress along the way. Following her discharge, they have remained in contact to check up on her. The staff was very helpful and always so loving towards my girl. Highly recommend this facility.

For emergency pet care, I highly recommend The COVE. They greeted me at the reception desk, immediately took my dog, Sandy back and began emergency care. During the 48 hours Sandy was with them, I was kept informed on her status, and the care she was receiving via phone calls. I was encouraged to call, no matter what the hour, if I wanted to check on her. The COVE provides compassion, care, and professionalism.

The staff at The COVE are AMAZING! They were very friendly and explained EVERYTHING. Words don’t express the expertise from the dr who calmed my thoughts and worked out a plan for my dog so he can have a good quality of life for the remainder of it.

Thank you, too, to a very special person who made it possible for my Rocky to see the cardiologist. I’m forever in your debt and overwhelmed with your gracious donation for testing and evaluation of him.

Always greeted with friendly and pleasant smile. Our wait is very minimal and Dr. Small is very informative and complete. She always has time to answer our questions. Brandy was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and genuinely cared about Fury and I. This is my first experience with an injured pet and I was scared and very worried about taking care of him the way he needed to be taken care of so that he could become well again. Brandy put my mind at ease and walked me through the entire process and answered all the questions I had for her, even the stupid ones. She is a valuable part of Fury’s treatment and I am so pleased that she is so kind and patient. Thank you, Brandy. Love, Fury & his mom

If you have a pet that is sick and you want to receive the best care in a spotless facility at a reasonable price please go to the Cove. For the Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Greenbrier resident might be a little bit far. The reality is you should spend the gas driving there because the care is awesome. They are compassionate, caring and they will treat you and your pet with dignity and will listen to your concerns.

Just wanted to thank Dr. Small, the other veterinarians, and the other professional staff for the professional care and the personal care Buttons received. We thank you for you wonderful letter as well. If love could have saved her she would still be here. We miss her so much. I know we made the right choice not to let her suffer for our sale any longer. Your professional staff and veterinarian helped me through a rough night. Visited The COVE this week for the first time for a cardiology consult with Dr. Small. It was a totally positive experience, even with a 6 hour round trip ride for us! We were warmly welcomed the minute we arrived, they cared for “us” as a whole…owners, the patient & our 10 month old puppy.

So I received a referral to The COVE because my regular vet was unable to assist when I brought in my kitten that had some type of infection on his mouth. Turns out it was dental floss that he got caught in his jaw and somehow swallowed and got caught in his throat. I was told he would probably need 2 surgeries. I tried to bring him that day on Saturday afternoon and was told the wait could be up to 4-5 hours and that Sundays are the busiest day. So I left work early on Monday to bring him in the early afternoon.

Fast forward we walk in and are immediately greeted. It’s a very pleasant waiting area with lots of windows so its nice and bright. They have a TV and tons of magazines. They even provide bottled water and some candies to munch on. We waited less than 5 minutes before we were taken to a room. A nurse immediately came in and took all of our information that was not listed on the referral. She then took my kitten (Catboy) away. A doctor came in not too long after and explained what she thought needed to be done which included x-rays and some other things. She gave best and worst case scenarios.  The nurse came back in with an estimate to get consent. It was a bit pricey but not unrealistic for a doctors office. A short while later the nurse came back in to advise that they were able to get the floss out and it wouldn’t require any surgeries or x-rays. Hallelujah! They came back in with a revised bill that included medicines that was cheaper than the original estimate that only included diagnostic. To say I was happy was an understatement. And to top it off we only spent 2 hours there.

All in all I was very pleased with The COVE and their professionalism. I hope I never have to return but a great place if you need emergency assistance for your pet.

We brought our dog in to The COVE one night for emergency services. We called ahead and he was brought back to a room immediately by Sarah, who took great care of him for the duration of his visit. Our dog was given a thorough exam and the vet treated him on an outpatient basis.

The next day his conditioned changed to include new symptoms that were not present the night before so we brought him back to The COVE. Because this visit was within 24 hours of the last, the fee for another exam was waived. Sarah, who had cared for our dog the night before, had recognized our dog as he was being triaged for the second time. Sarah came out to see us in the waiting and exam rooms throughout the visit and kept us updated on how he was doing. The staff obtained our consent prior to performing any tests/procedures and provided a clear and detailed estimate for the expense of the visit as well as additional overnight care if we felt that was necessary. Our vet (Dr. Thomas) took her time explaining our dog’s diagnosis, prognosis, and all available treatment options. Because of the patient/pet owner education Dr. Thomas provided us, we felt confident in treating our dog at home.

I would absolutely return to The COVE to care for any of our pets and recommend their services to anyone for routine or emergency veterinary care!!

We were referred by our long time vet for our sweet girl’s heart problem. I could not be happier with the care we have received. I love the team at The COVE. My cat Boomer was referred to The COVE because he needed teeth removed but did not do well under anesthesia with his primary veterinarian due to heart issues. We had our first appointment this week and it was amazing! Boomer needed to see Dr. Small and Dr. Fox and we were able to get back to back appointments to make the visit easier on Boomer, which I greatly appreciated. There was not a long wait time when we got there and checked in. The thing that impressed me the most was the knowledge that the veterinarians give to their vet technicians – you can tell the veterinarians enjoy teaching them and are confident in their skills. Once I learned from our primary veterinarian that Boomer has heart disease I was constantly Googling and working myself up over his health, but after talking to Dr. Small I feel so much more relaxed about Boomer’s condition. Both Dr. Small and Dr. Fox made me feel very confident that Boomer can safely undergo anesthesia to get his teeth removed. I would definitely recommend The COVE and look forward to Boomer’s upcoming appointment so he can feel better! Thank you!

I rushed Cooper to this vet after my regular vet told me on the phone to take him to the emergency vet asap. A friend recommended this place to me over the emergency vet closest to our house. Cooper was in pain and the people at The COVE immediately took him back for an exam while I filled out the paperwork. Unfortunately, our boy had tumors and internal bleeding from a ruptured spleen. The vet gave us all the medical details and her recommendation. On the worst day of our life, everyone at The COVE was compassionate and caring as we made the decision to help Cooper pass to the Rainbow Bridge. They made him comfortable as I waited with him for the rest of the family to arrive to say our goodbyes. We were there for several hours. The day is kind of a blur, but I would definitely recommend this vet, and I will come back for any other emergency care for our pets. We opted for a cremation so a couple of days later we returned for his remains. Nansemond Crematory made plaster paw prints and our boy’s ashes were in a beautiful wooden box with his name on it. The COVE even sent a sympathy card that all the employees signed.

Our furbaby stopped eating and after extensive trips to our vet, no reason could be found and we were referred to the The COVE. My Cat, Ice, had struggled for years with stomatitis, bad gums and horrible breath. Dr. Fox recommended that his teeth be removed. While a little nervous about this procedure, I felt confident in Dr. Fox’s expertise. The procedure went very well and Ice’s mouth is totally healed. I would like to take a moment to thank the staff and reception for their acts of kindness to my daughter and myself when we had to make the toughest decision of our life to let our sweet Lyla cross the RainbowBridge. I only have good things to say. Your place looks really good, and very clean inside…honestly, I think it’s the nicest veterinary office I’ve ever been to. I thought the staff was great, at least the ones I met. Kelsey and Danielle were both friendly and seemed very knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all our ridiculous questions. Link went to Kelsey for protection during his exam so I think he has a new girlfriend. I was really impressed with Dr. Fox, she was very nice and patient with us, and laid out a plan for Link that was very clear and concise. Maybe it sounds dumb, but I love this cat more than anything. We had a bad experience with our last cat, the last time he was under anesthesia for dental work. I’m just really scared for Link to go through the surgery, and I know there’s no guarantees and sometimes things happen you can’t control and aren’t your fault, but Dr. Fox made me feel he’s pretty safe with you guys and in good hands. I know you will take care of him the best that you can, and I really couldn’t ask for more. Whatever happens, you made me feel much more comfortable than I did – like we’ve got him at the best place, with the most qualified people.

I don’t really care about the money. I researched your place before we came and read any reviews I could find. Some of the few complaints were about the expense. I expect medical treatment, especially at an emergency clinic, to be somewhat expensive unless your pet has health insurance. The exact same treatment for a human with no insurance would cost a lot more. I know it’s tough living paycheck to paycheck, but if I couldn’t afford this for him I would try to beg and borrow from my family, I would take out a loan, open a credit card, refinance my house…anything short of stealing. I would exhaust every option I could think of and then find a way to make it work by sacrificing something else. I don’t think what you charge or asking for the deposit up front is unreasonable. Anyway, sorry for writing you a novel. Without even having the procedure done yet, I can say that I think you run a good practice and I’m very grateful that you are here. I can’t thank you enough.

A while back I brought one of my Catch and Release cats to your establishment for treatment…..massive teeth removal!!!!! I was devastated when my dog, Dylan, developed uncontrolled oral bleeding after the 11th hour on July 27, 2017. So many friends have given such positive feedback about The Cove, so I ventured there – my angel in hand. We were sent here for specialty care by our regular vet, Dog & Cat in Norfolk when our dog Sydney developed a heart condition. We had to take our cat the other morning for emergency care. We were greeted immediately and he was quickly yet very thoroughly triaged and taken back. The staff whom we initially met were absolutely wonderful. We had to leave Jake there for a few hours so that further tests could be performed, and once we did speak with the vet regarding the possible differential, she was awesome. It amazed me how much time everyone took with us, and they treated Jake so wonderfully. The facility is immaculate, and our one glimpse of the “surgery” area revealed an impressive, state-of-the-art facility. It’s nice to know that there is such a wonderful emergency service within a quick and easy drive from our home in Norfolk.
