What a long, strange trip 2021 has been! We know it was another challenging one, but our team came together, worked together, and truly brought to life our core values of Community, Collaboration, Commitment, Compassion, and Integrity.

Thank you again to all of our clients who were patient, kind, and understanding as we did our utmost to provide the highest quality care to pets in need.

So as we bid farewell to 2021, let’s reflect on all the good we accomplished together over the past year:

We had a birthday in May! The COVE celebrated our 9th year of providing specialty and 24/7 emergency care to the Suffolk community and beyond. Since opening our doors, we’ve been fortunate to experience steady growth, and 2021 was no exception.

We treated more than 14,898 pets across our emergency and specialty departments. To put that into perspective, we are now seeing twice as many patients as we did pre-COVID. Nearly 9,100 of those were emergency patients whose caregivers brought them to us for lifesaving care.

It’s no surprise, then, that we also added 42 new team members to our staff. We needed them, especially considering that we received more than 107,000 incoming phone calls during the course of the year. From answering concerned pet parents’ questions about whether their furry family members needed emergency care to scheduling appointments to see our specialists, our team was there to serve everyone who called.

Speaking of specialists, our veterinarians were once again in high demand this year, as in past ones.

Our Surgery department, led by Jeff Stallings, DVM, DACVS, conducted 449 surgery consults. In total, our hospital performed more than 1,500 surgical procedures. (That’s more than double last year’s count!) Please visit our Facebook and Instagram pages to learn more about specific cases and see how our furry patients have recovered. (Remember Clyde?)

Our Cardiology department, led by Merrilee Small, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology), conducted 459 consults with families whose pets needed some heartfelt attention. (Miss Molly, for example.) Similarly, our Dentistry department, led by Colleen Fox, DVM, CSAVP Dentistry, held 449 consults about a wide range of oral conditions and concerns. (One puppy named Monti needed BOTH doctors.)

Happy New Year from The COVE

It is truly an honor to help each and every pet patient who walks, wags, or purrs through our doors. In 2022, we look forward to celebrating our milestone 10th year and continuing to provide excellent and progressive veterinary medicine to the Suffolk community and beyond.

We wish you and all your furry family members loved ones a safe, healthy, and happy New Year.

And remember, if you need us, The COVE is open 24/7/365. Call 757-935-9111 anytime.
